Mount Sinjar Air Force Base

Mount Sinjar Air Force Base

Everyone knows that the US should have kept a base *somewhere* in IRAQ. I propose that we build an airbase near Mount Sinjar. It is at a crossroads of an important highway (links to the major city of Mosul). It is also close the the Kurds, which helped retake the town of Sinjar.

The base could be USA only, but it makes more sense to make it a NATO/UN (split base - share runways). NATO's mission would be to patrol the skies and defend the countryside. The UN base would be charged with protection of the local inhabitants (many non-Shiite religions) and bringing in relief supplies and medicine.

The town of Sinjar and its surroundings will be rebuilt and the Yazidi people resettled. The surrounding villages will also be rebuilt (including Christian areas). NATO will be responsible for their safety.
